Prologue

Wednesday 21: 37
First Day of the Seminar
-----
Club Spectre

“Wanna dance?”

Warrick abandoned his beer for a minute and turned to look at the kid. Kid seemed to be very accurate term, the boy looked like a younger version of Sanders. Bleached hair, sculpted into gravity-defining spikes. He kept jittering, like he just couldn’t keep himself still. His glitter-covered tank top and red jeans made him blend into the mass of people. The thought made Warrick grimace. Ninety percent of the club’s clientele seemed to consist of young Sanders look-alikes.

“Well?” The boy asked hopefully.
“I’ll take a rain check. About ten years from now.” Warric turned back to his beer. From the corner of his eye he saw the kid returning to a corner where his buddies were waiting. All six just as jittery as the kid was.

Warrick took one good look at the crowd. The dance floor was full of glittery young men, wriggling against each other like a flock of carefree pigeons. In the booths few couples were making out, and obviously enjoying the attention. In a corner a well manicured elderly man kept liquoring up two young boys.

He pulled out few notes from his wallet, placed them next to his empty pint and left.

Hotel lobby

“How was it?” The familiar voice came from behind him as soon as he leaned against the reception counter and asked for his room key. The same blue-eye appeared next to him and grinned widely.

“If you’re back this early it probably didn’t go like you planned.”
“No, I had fast and furious quickie in the bathroom so I could come back here to chat up cops.” Warric deadpanned.
“Awww…. You didn’t need to hurry on my account. I’m stuck here for at least another hour.”
“I thought you were going home.”
“I was, but then one of the lecturers cancelled. We had to find a last minute replacement and update all the flyers and programs. Not that it’s my job. I just gotta change the posters and schedules in the lecture hall.”
“And you have to wait till it’s ready? You’re night sounds almost as much fun as mine.”
“I warned you.” Blue-eye grinned. “Glitter teens have invaded every club known to man.”
“I think I was one of two men who didn’t have sequins of glitter. The other one was this freaky old guy in a suit.”
“I know the type. Where there’s young and pretty, there’s always old and predatory. Half of those kids probably got in with face IDs.”
“Probably. I was like a grandpa watching kids play.”
“So you didn’t get to play?”

“If I ever start chasing young kids like that guy, someone better shoot me.”
“You want company?”
“For watching TV in my room?”
“For a drink.” The guy pointed to the hotel bar. “It’s still early.”
“Are you gonna order something with a pink little umbrella?”
“No.”
“You don’t wear anything with sequins?”

Blue-eye pulled his leather jacket open. “Nope.”
“And you don’t dance like a hyperactive wind-up toy?”
“I don’t dance at all.”
“Okay. At least you didn’t try to get my attention by humping my leg.” Warrick took his key and headed to the bar with the guy in tow. They settled on a remote corner table and both ordered a beer.

“Sorry, man, I forgot your name. Flock?”
“Flack. You were…. Green?”
“Brown.”
“Then we’re even. Don.”
“Warrick.”

Waitress brought them their beers and they both took a long swig.
“So how do you know so much about clubs if you don’t go there?”
“You have any idea how many times I’ve had a dead body in some club? And I don’t mean the seedy ones, the high-end places are even worse. Rich kids playing and getting high till they do something stupid.”
“Sounds like Vegas.”
“We had a case last month. A kid was killed in the middle of the dance floor. The other guy snapped the leg off from a wineglass and stabbed him.”
“Murder on the dance floor.”
“Literally.” Don took another sip from his pint. “By the way…. any idea what you got in your jeans?”
“I`ve had the same equipment my whole life, I know what I got down there,” Warrick glanced down to check his jeans.

“You got a glittery handprint on your ass.”
“Seriously?”
“Yep.”
“Some creep tried to grope me when I was leaving.”
“Did he get anywhere?”
“Yeah, he got a one-way trip into the nearest wall.”
“So you didn’t get the kind of fun you were looking for. I thought people were pretty crazy in Vegas.” Don tilted his eyebrows to emphasise his meaning. “Can’t you have fun there?”
“Not that kind of fun, if you work with cops.”
“Is that your usual MO on seminar trips?”
“Sometimes.”
“Your PD is probably like ours, couple bigots, couple guys who go overboard with the whole tolerance thing. And most of them don’t give a damn as long as you don’t bring it to work with you.” Flack’s cell phone beeped and he checked the new message. “I gotta go. But you’ll be here for a week, we’ll get you laid.”

“Is that an offer?”
“You got my number.” Flack pointed to the seminar poster on the wall. In the bottom was a list of contact persons and their numbers. “A week in New York can be a wild ride. Call me if you need some help from a native.”

Mmmmm, an interesting pairing, never thought of putting Don with Warrick.. Certainly going to keep an eye on this for sure, just to see how it's progressing (nothing to do with the hotness and the obvious sexual chemistry between these two..whistling innocently) ::))

Of course not.... ;)

I kinda wonder why there`s no fics about Don/Warrick pairing. They seem like a very even match: Two strong mature men. Pretty often the slash pairings have a weaker and more dominate part, but I think those two could actually have a lot in common (instead of the usual "opposites attract" pairings).

My mental images are currently quite smutty....
